Racing as training

Yesterday we ran the traditional Maratón Rover Scout “México-Cuernavaca”, which is arguably the oldest trail marathon in the country. The running gang (Octavio, Sergio, Nahila, Chalita & I) got together and enjoyed the beautiful mountain views during a cloudy day along the strenuous course.
I ran most of the course with Nahila and Chalita, who were also doing the race as a training run for their upcoming big projects (Racing the Planet 250K and Leadville Trail 100, respectively). We ran and power-walked at a conservative pace, using trekking poles during the climbs. Sergio was the first to finish the 42K course in 5h 18m, followed by Octavio in 5h 50m, then Chalita (who sprinted the last 3km) in 6h 15m and finally Nahila and myself in 6h 28m.
Our original plan was to hike back up to Tres Marías to log another 11km of running but, once we were in Cuernavaca we decided to call it a day and go for a well-deserved lunch. Maybe some other day…
Rest of the pictures are here.
