The messages above were the last thing a FreeBSD box could say about my now defunct external hard drive.
The drive had been connected to my home iMac and to my old PC for a couple of years. I used it primarily for storing lots of music files, as well as for keeping very old and unused files out of the desktop’s internal disk.
The drive was working just fine until the other day when, all of a sudden, it started making a weird noise. I was no longer able to read data from it. Un-mounting and re-mounting it didn’t work either, so I took it to the office, where I disassembled it and put into the FreeBSD box I have there. It was my last resort, to try to use it as an internal disk to get the data out of it. You already know the rest of the story…
So, unless I plan to spend a good amount of money to send it to a disk saver service, I’ll have to resign and say goodbye to all the precious data that was stored there, specially data from both my old Environmental Microbiology and Bioinformatics theses
