The messages above were the last thing a FreeBSD box could say about my now defunct external hard drive.

The drive had been connected to my home iMac and to my old PC for a couple of years. I used it primarily for storing lots of music files, as well as for keeping very old and unused files out of the desktop’s internal disk.

The drive was working just fine until the other day when, all of a sudden, it started making a weird noise. I was no longer able to read data from it. Un-mounting and re-mounting it didn’t work either, so I took it to the office, where I disassembled it and put into the FreeBSD box I have there. It was my last resort, to try to use it as an internal disk to get the data out of it. You already know the rest of the story…

So, unless I plan to spend a good amount of money to send it to a disk saver service, I’ll have to resign and say goodbye to all the precious data that was stored there, specially data from both my old Environmental Microbiology and Bioinformatics theses

Partying

The last couple of days have been of partying only. Partying and eating of course! I’ve had celebrations with family, friends and work colleagues every day since I came back from Toronto.

I can’t figure out how much weight I’ve gained during this month but it’s starting to worry me. Need to start a diet really soon, as well as real training. I want to be back to a semi-human form

Winter running

The snowstorm finally ended. Güero and I didn’t hesitate on going out this morning to enjoy Canadian Winter while running almost 19 km around Toronto’s downtown and the Moore Park’s Ravine. It was a really cold (-17ºC) run, but the day was extremely beautiful!

Lots of snow

Güero and I arrived to Toronto on Sunday. We’ve been attending (and presenting) the engineering workshops that are organized twice a year by our team.

We have also had our engineering team party and, of course, we have been enjoying the beginning of the real Winter here in Canada. It has been snowing almost daily since Monday.

We were planning a ski outing with the whole team for today but, unfortunately, a strong snowstorm kicked in and there was no other option than to remain snowed-in inside our hotel (and our friends inside their homes).

So it seems like we’ll have to wait until the storm ceases so we are able to do something in the weekend, before flying back to Mexico City. My fingers are crossed…

Year’s last race?

Poli, Octavio and I ran a race tonight. We did the III Carrera Nocturna at the University campus. As every other year, the race was held at night, starting from the Olympic stadium towards the campus streets and back to the stadium, a nice and enjoyable 10K course.

As an almost traditional thing, we celebrated our race finish by eating flautas at Tacos Chelo in Av. Coyoacán

Fast mountain hike

Mokka and I went for a quick climb of Nevado de Toluca today. We did a semi-direct route to Pico del Aguila by hiking around Laguna de la Luna and then around the Southwest lip of the crater. Mokka carried her own water and food this time, she did it without a problem and even seemed to enjoy the task!

We got to the car after 3 hours of hiking, she slept on my leg during the trip back home

Rest of the pictures are here.
