Let it go?

With the aid of some self-theraphy, I’ve managed to heal my knee injury and did 2 consecutive days of gentle (6 km) running. This reopened the possibility of doing the project that has been in my mind for the last 2 months and that I abandoned just a few days ago.

There are still a lot of opportunities. I won’t let them go…

Days 11 to 20

Well, I’ve been really busy the last few days and haven’t got enough time to send more contributions to the Yahoo! Time Capsule. These are from the last 10 days (actually 8):

About friends & climbing

Cova, Aline & I had a great time last night. We went to a bar in Coyoacán and had an exciting talk about climbing, past experiences and future projects. We simply lost track of time!

As the late Wolfgang Güllich used to say, the best part of climbing is when you meet with your friends to have a drink and talk about climbing

Changabang missing climbers update: Searching on restricted areas

Still waiting for better news…

“We think the missing climbers may be at 4,500-5000 meters altitude, which is good news, since they can survive at such altitude,” said 14 x 8000er Carlos Carsolio, currently coordinating the rescue work for Andres Delgado and Alfonso de la Parra. The two Mexican climbers went missing two weeks ago on Changabang, Indian Himalaya…

Powerpuff Girls

Just as every other year at Yahoo! México, today was the traditional Halloween costume party. There were a lot of funny and great ideas, ranging from crazy surgeons to mexican-style wrestlers going through a lot of characters from movies and television.

Yamile, Mary, Ana and I teamed up for dressing as the Powerpuff Girls and Professor Utonium:

Mexican climbers missing on Changabang

Mexican climbers (both of them Everest summiteers) Alfonso de la Parra and Andres Delgado are reportedly missing on Changabang (6,864m), Indian Himalaya.

The climbers last made contact via sat-phone from the mountain on October 13. “Alfonso called me and told me Andres and him were just back from a wall where they had been stuck for several days,” Alfonso’s wife Leny Quintana told a Mexican radio Station. “They said they were OK although tired. Then communication went off, and I’ve never heard of them again.”

I know Andrés from many years ago (he’s a good friend of my brother and of many other climbing friends) and I’m sure he and Alfonso are strong enough for surviving in extreme himalayan conditions. I hope we get better news about them soon. Our fingers are crossed.

Making progress

Ana & I went again to Chiluca boulders. She’s making progress at coordinating her moves and endurance, while I’m recovering my elasticity and technical level (I think I’m 2 letters below my usual grade).

We couldn’t enjoy a great sunset due to the amount of clouds, but at least we spent a nice time with our friends

Todd Skinner killed

Some sad news for the international climbing community:

Todd Skinner, the Lander, Wyoming-based climber whose free climbing accomplishments spanned more than twenty years and two dozen countries, was killed yesterday, October 23, while descending fixed ropes on the Leaning Tower in Yosemite Valley. The accident occurred in the company of partner Jim Hewitt. Further details are lacking as we go to press…

The community’s injuries collection…

Now it was Cova’s turn to go the hospital. He sprained his left ankle during a soccer game at school. He got immobilization in his foot and it will remain like that for 3 weeks; after that, the rehabilitation will begin.

Last night, at the Mountain Film Festival I badly twisted my right knee and got a little but painful torned ligament. Now I’m taking care of it. I hope this doesn’t ruin my plans for the upcoming weeks…

This year has been an unfortunate one for all of us
