Beer & garage bands

Last night Mariana, Octavio and I went to a party in the northeast side of the city.

It was a “gig” in a small garage at the middle of a not very safe neighborhood. 4 bands played because of some girl’s birthday and because of Independence Day. We drank a lot of beer and had a lot of fun as always.

We left the place just before dawn…

DNA and the Holocaust

For those (like me) interested in 2nd World War history, this is a very good article:

Last November, Syd Mandelbaum read news accounts that bones dating from the Nazi era had been found during roadwork in Stuttgart, Germany. “The German government contacted the Israeli police to see if it could help identify the remains, but they could not,” recalls Mandelbaum, who soon learned that other mass graves from the same period had just been uncovered in Poland and elsewhere in Germany in development projects. With no way to identify remains, the governments didn’t know what to do with the bones…

For 1st Woman With Bionic Arm, a New Life Is Within Reach

This taught me something about patience & perseverance:

The first time Claudia Mitchell peeled a banana one-handed, she cried.

It was several months after she lost her left arm at the shoulder in a motorcycle accident. She used her feet to hold the banana and peeled it with her right hand. She felt like a monkey.

“It was not a good day,” Mitchell, 26, recalled this week. “Although I accomplished the mission, emotionally it was something to be reckoned with.”

Expanding the Ranks of Vertebrate Genomes

When the brown Norway rat and the red jungle fowl joined the ranks of the sequenced in 2004, two unsung heroes of experimental biology finally got their due. Although the projects met with some resistance at the start, a genetics toolbox has been assembled that is worthy of these animals’ research status, and scientists are starting to succeed in applying its contents…

This is just half of the battle…

Tonight I went to the doctor. He removed the blue thing from my hand. It isn’t immobilized anymore and now I’m able to see the real damage in my thumb and the palm of my hand. The thumb is completely rigid, weak, fragile, unable to flex and it hurts a lot. The doctor ordered physical rehabilitation. The battle hasn’t finished yet…

Vivid colors

The last training day before going to the doctor.

This afternoon the skylight was special, a lot of colors everywhere and the good friends training together. The nature displaying all of its magic…

Do I need a fight club?

This evening I watched the movie for the Nth time. A masterpiece full of hilarious but tremendous coincidences…

Double personality?
Personality crisis?
Fears?
Doubts?
Un-answered questions?
Rebel yell?

I just want to bring it all out…

Sleepy boy

I’ve spent most of the day sleeping, eating and sleeping again. It seems like (at least for today) I’m taking advantage of vacations for having some real rest. Unless this lasts for the whole week, being in “recovery mode” simply feels great!

Anathema – A Moment In Time [DVD/CD]

Today I got a copy of this DVD/CD. It’s another “must have” for all the fans like me. The live setting resembles a lot from the last Were You There? video. My favorite song definitely is the cover of Pink Floyd’s Comfortably Numb. Here’s the setlist:
  1. Shroud Of False
  2. Fragile Dreams
  3. Balance
  4. Closer
  5. Lost Control
  6. Empty
  7. A Natural Disaster
  8. Inner Silence
  9. One Last Goodbye
  10. Judgement
  11. Panic
  12. Flying
  13. Angelica
  14. Comfortably Numb

As bonus material it contains a 4-track live performance at Krzemionki in 2004. Really good too!

Vacation mode?

Today I finished all the pending stuff for the mexican soccer league project at Yahoo!. For all the soccer fans out there (definitely not me), the final result of this can be seen here:

Now I’m ready to enjoy(?) a full week vacation. I really need some rest, but there is a lot of other pending stuff out there waiting to be finished. We’ll see…
