North Pole Looked Like Paradise

Scientists have found what might have been the ideal ancient vacation hot spot with a 74-degree Fahrenheit average temperature, alligator ancestors and palm trees. It’s smack in the middle of the Arctic.

First-of-its-kind core samples dug up from deep beneath the Arctic Ocean floor show that 55 million years ago an area near the North Pole was practically a subtropical paradise, three new studies show…

‘Cross The Breeze

I’m in training mode again. A big storm is over the city tonight and I’ve got my dose of rain while running my usual circuit along the river. It’s great to feel the fresh breeze again!

sonic youth – ‘cross the breeze

let’s go walking on the water
come all the way please
i wanna know
should i stay or go?

no need to be scared
let’s jump into the day
i wanna know
i think i oughta go

close your eyes and make believe
you can do whatever you please
i wanna know
i think i better go

let’s go walkin on water
now you think i’m satan’s daughter
i wanna know
please let me go!

just too quick
now i think i’m gonna be sick
i wanna know
should i stay or go?

i’m trying for the future
it’s funny that way
i wanna know
i wanna know!

i took a look into the hate
it made me feel very up to date
i wanna know
should i stay or go?

hold me tight, down on my knees
so i don’t go burning ‘cross the breeze
i wanna know
i wanna know!

i wanna know
should i stay or go?

burning ‘cross the breeze
burning ‘cross the breeze
blowing ‘cross the breeze…

Cheap hallucinations

My name is Don Juan DeMarco. I am the greatest lover in the world…

Every time I hear this line in the movie I can’t help but laugh until my stomach hurts. What an excellent self-steem had this character! Fer & I concluded that hallucinations without drugs are funnier than any other thing…

Sweat & sip

After breakfast and a small nap at Fer’s place, I came back home and tried to get a bit more hours of sleep. 2 hours later, Lula & Beto appeared and we went to the university to sweat some of last night’s beers.

The weather was hotter than usual today, so after a couple of laps in the wall I ended like if I had got into a sauna.

The intense weekend came to its end after having lunch in Coyoacán. As always, we couldn’t leave the place without sipping some hot mochas.

The 7 a.m. “gordobics” class

Despite the strong hangover and the thrashed condition that resulted from last night’s party, I managed to get up early (by 5:30 a.m.), had a cold shower, a strong coffee and headed to Fer’s place for taking her to the Bonafont’s women race in the city’s downtown.

It was fun (and scary at the same time) to watch about 10,000 women doing some warm-up exercises in the middle of Paseo de la Reforma (one of the most important avenues in this city):

The race began at 8 a.m. and while Fer throwed out her lungs running it, I did my own thing finding a nice spot to hide from sunlight.

She finished the race in about 32 minutes (a decent time for running 5 km without previous training) and came back to where I was to bring me back from my catatonic state. She convinced me to get back home and had breakfast. I quickly agreed. After all, who can resist to the enchant of such a cute chef?

Que siga la fiesta!

Great party we had tonight. It was Erick’s birthday and aunt Yola organized a drinking fest at their apartment. We had an excellent time as usual.

Now I must get into bed just to wake up in a couple of hours. I hope it doesn’t spin too much… hehehe

How geek are you?

While chatting with Cicloid this morning, it came to my mind that I had to apply some pending changes to my geek code. Not too many, but substantial ones…

After that I went training to the university. I logged 800 meters of climbing and 45 minutes of skating (yes, skating).

By 4 p.m. I went to visit my grandmother and had lunch at her place. Lots of food!

Now I’ll go to aunt Yola’s apartment for a big party. I’m in the middle of an intense weekend!

Long time friendships…

Aldo and I met tonight for drinking a couple of beers and talking about a lot of things.

We talked about all the things we lived since kindergarden and how our lives changed so agressively when we had to assist to different secondary schools. A lot of old friends came to our minds during this conversation. It’s great that we are still able to be in touch and remember such moments.

Obviously, during one of the subjects it came out the question of how many years we have of being friends, our calculations said: 24 years! Yeah, our mothers almost used to change our diapers together… hehehe

Code cracking day

The whole day consisted of strategies for solving different kinds of puzzles…

#!/home/y/bin/perl -w

use strict;
use Data::Dumper;
use XML::Simple;

my $xml_object ...

At the very first hour in the morning I took the lead on our weekly engineering phone conference, the topic I chose was XML processing with Perl. The rest of the working hours were as usual: fixing bugs, creating packages, setting up webservices…

I was able to finish everything just in time to go out and do some bouldering with my friends. We had an excellent training session as usual and managed to link some new moves on the well-known cave. The sunset was the only thing we didn’t need to hack to be espectacular…

Once back at home, I had a shower and went with Fer to the cinema. Despite the polarized opinions that I’ve heard about The Da Vinci Code I still wanted to have my own.

The movie is good in general (in fact, to simply watch the cute and talented Audrey Tautou in the big screen is far more than a reward for me…), but in a difficult topic such as religion I prefer to keep my mouth closed.

I’m sure that giving a read to the book can be far more illustrative than the movie but, to be honest, I’ve never been into reading books other than those about climbing…
