The 24-hour rush

I just felt like running…

Unadvertedly, I did more than what I was expecting to do in a single weekend. To be more precise, in 24 hours. Everything began yesterday around 5:30 p.m…

Beto and I ran only a third of our infamous route to Villa Alpina. We ran the beautiful section from the “Dunes” to the “Viewpoint” at the end of the “Slippery uphill”. Roundtrip length: 10 km. After that we drove to Coyoacán, brewed some hot chocolate with donuts, then went back to sleep for having some rest before the race.

By today’s 6:30 a.m. we were picking up Fer at her place and we headed to the city downtown. After a bit of traffic, we managed to park the car and got into our starting block for the Nike 10K race. Many, many people were there, I think around 15,000. The race began around 8 o’clock. Beto chose to push himself a bit faster than us, maybe due to all the weeks of lazyness… He completed the 10 km route in 53 minutes. Fer and I took things slowly but with lots of decision. Even though she wasn’t completely recovered from the injuries in her legs, we managed to finish the race in 1 hour 3 minutes. She was even making jokes about her pain during the race! She’s becoming stubborn and I’m creating a monster!!!

After the race, there was a small concert. I haven’t seen Fobia in about 7 years. It was great to sing some good old songs!

When the concert ended, Beto took us to a small restaurant near the Sope running circuit in Chapultepec. We had an enormous breakfast and lots of fun after the success in the race. We came back home after that. Once at home I took a 3 hour nap. When I woke up I felt this urge to keep running…

Around 4:30 p.m. I was lacing again my running shoes, drank some water and smashed my usual 11 km training circuit along the river. I managed to run it exactly in 1 hour. I returned home with some pain in my right knee and in the back of my left thigh. I had a well deserved bath and dinner. Now I begin to feel exhausted…

Run Forrest! Run!!…
