‘Dimebag’ Darrell Abbott (1966-2004)

As some of you know, guitar legend Darrell Abbott -a.k.a. Dimebag Darrell- guitarist for Damageplan and Pantera was shot and killed onstage last night while playing at a club in Columbus, Ohio.

I found this interesting article which describes the life and personality of this metal legend:

Rest in Peace Dimebag!

Querreque!

We have just returned from Caro & Gil’s wedding in Acapulco.

Gina, Güero, Beto and I drove the shitty Autopista del Sol highway on yesterday’s morning. After eating breakfast in Cuernavaca, we arrived to Acapulco by mid-day and checked-in at the hotel. We found Gil at the hotel’s lobby and obviously he was running like a madman from here to there getting it all ready for the afternoon.

While he was sweating the “fat drop” we installed on our room and quicky changed our clothes for swimming at the pool. Half of the mafia were already there: Poncho, Bosco, Serch, Tebo, etc. We swam a bit and then went for some lunch at the hotel’s restaurant.

After lunch, we ran to the room for taking a shower and to apply the yucatecan costume to ourselves. As a promise that I made to Gil some years ago, I had to comb my hair completely backwards for looking like a “decent” person. This required a big effort, since I don’t brush my hair too frequently. I have to admit that I didn’t look so bad. Even some friends told me that if I did it more often, I could get a girlfriend soon… yeah, sure…

The civic wedding started about 6:30 p.m. Everybody were there: families, friends and the whole mafia. After this, Bosco led an emotive religious ceremony which ended about 8 p.m. Then came the big party… Lots of fun, jokes, best wishes, dance and drinks. All of us were very happy.

By late night (or early morning), most of the people went to sleep, except for the drunken individuals… It’s difficult to explain with details, but as far as I can remember, Beto and I ended on another wedding trying to conquer some jewish girls. Soon after, we were running from the hotel’s security staff, because the jews didn’t want some drunk members of a marimba band chasing their women on the beach. Querreque!

The next morning was everything but glamorous. I don’t know how we managed to find our room, but we did it. We woke up still drunk and the hangover was yet to come… In the meantime, we had a visit from Gina and Güero who were returning from eating breakfast. Then Poncho called to check if we were still alive. After 4 hours of struggling and demon-fighting we managed to survive the fscking cruda.

By 2 p.m. all of us headed to Barra Vieja for eating some seafood. We arrived there, ate some appetizers, drank some beers to relieve the hangover, and waited for nearly 2 hours to have some delicious “pescado a la talla” on the table. After eating like barbarians, we took some pictures at the beach and then drove all the shitty road back to México City.

This was a memorable weekend. Congratulations to Caro & Gil, I wish you the best of lucks!

Guayabera’s search expedition

This evening Beto and I went to the city downtown for buying some guayaberas. We need them because tomorrow we’re heading to Acapulco for Caro & Gil’s wedding.

After trying some models, we found some very fine and cheap ($315 pesos) ones that will do the trick of making us look “kind of” decent…

I’ll post a review of the wedding if we are able to survive the big party

Back from Hell’s freezer!

Yes! I survived my trip to Patagonia with Gina and Güero. All I can say is that it’s an awesome place!!

Despite of the fiercy winds (about 50-70 km/hr on a “normal” day to 150 km/hr on the worst storm!), the all-day rain (even though the place is in the middle of a big desert with an estimated annual precipitation of 450 mm!) and the unpredictable weather (it can go from VERY hot/sunny to VERY cold/cloudy in a matter of minutes!), it’s for sure one of the better places on earth for trekking and extreme alpinism. I simply loved it! I’ll be back there someday, that’s for sure!!

As soon as I get my pictures developed I’ll post a full section about the trip
